Buildings for a New Tomorrow

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

A one-day symposium hosted by the Episcopal Church Building Fund at
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia

Just $100-all-inclusive!

Registration deadline: Monday, March 22

  • If you are ready for an open and honest conversation about church buildings and how they support - or hinder - our ministries

  • If you are committed to changing the way we think of ourselves, our congregations, our buildings and our communities

  • If you are willing to learn - and to teach - new approaches to "do church," leaving your title and your ego at the door
...join us for this day-long event where you will hear from parish and diocesan leaders who will ask some tough questions and pose provocative and hopeful solutions to the problems faced by parishes and dioceses whose buildings present challenges to their ministries.

You'll hear real-life stories and frank assessments of situations from across the Episcopal Church, and you'll meet people who have not only solved difficult building-related problems but who have experienced new life as a result.

You'll also take lessons from the Emergent Church movement - where people meet in pubs or schools or living rooms.

SPEAKERS INCLUDE:
The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, the youngest bishop in the Episcopal Church, who has been unusually open about the tough economic realities faced by his diocese, Northwestern Pennsylvania, , how this has affected the Episcopal Church there, and what they've learned;

Representatives of the Episcopal Church Building Fund, who will show how to connect people, churches and dioceses to resources;

The Rt. Rev. Thomas C. Ely of the Diocese of Vermont, who will show how being green can save money - and why this is important;

The Rt. Rev. Bud Cederholm and Steve Pierce from the Diocese of Massachusetts, who will explain when to liquidate assets and how to do so in ways that;

The Rev. Angela Emerson Minister for Stewardship Development in the Diocese of VT;

The Rev. Anita Schell-Lambert, chair of the Earth Stewards Committee for the Diocese of VT.

Parish leaders who have discovered creative ways to generate revenue that allows them to remain in their buildings and keep those buildings healthy.

Do you have a story to tell? We hope you will come and share what you've learned with diocesan and parish leaders from across the Episcopal Church.
